Injuries are starting to pile up for the Indiana Pacers.
Big man Isaiah Jackson is lost for the season after he sustained a torn right achilles tendon during Friday night's contest against the New Orleans Pelicans, the team announced.
Jackson left the game with what was initially described as a calf injury, but an MRI taken in Dallas during the Pacers' current road trip revealed the torn Achilles tendon. He’s scheduled to undergo surgery Monday.
The news comes less than two weeks after the Pacers found out they'd be without the services James Wiseman to the same injury. The former second-overall pick in 2020 underwent surgery for a left achilles tear last week, abruptly putting an end to his campaign after just one game.
Meanwhile, Jackson had made five appearances for Indiana this year, averaging seven points on 60.9 per cent shooting from the field to go with 5.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks through 16.8 minutes a night.
The 22-year-old was a first-round draft pick in 2021 out of Kentucky and has played primarily as a backup with the Pacers since entering the league.
It's the latest in a slew of injuries for the Pacers. Aaron Nesmith and Canadian Andrew Nembhard are both day-to-day with ankle and knee injuries respectively.
The Pacers (2-4) return to action on Monday as they visit the reigning Western Conference champion Dallas Mavericks.
