Indiana Pacers centre James Wiseman has suffered a torn Achilles tendon following Wednesday night's season-opener against the Detroit Pistons, the team announced Thursday.
According to the team, Wiseman underwent an MRI on Thursday to confirm the tear and that he and the team are working together to evaluate treatment options.
Wiseman, 23, suffered the non-contract injury at the end of the first quarter in his regular-season debut with the Pacers. He took a three-pointer, and as he headed back to his end, he turned and stopped to look down at his leg. He grabbed the injured left leg and was helped back to his team's locker room. He did not return.
He had six points and one rebound in the four minutes he played.
A former second-overall pick from the 2020 NBA Draft, Wiseman signed a two-year, $4.7 million contract with the Pacers in the off-season. The deal comes with a team option for the 2025-26 season.
