Pistons' Isaiah Stewart suspended, fined following incident against Pacers

Tensions boiling over for Isaiah Stewart have proven to be costly yet again.

The Detroit Pistons big man was suspended for one game by the NBA on Friday after accumulating his sixth flagrant foul point of the season, the league announced.

Stewart picked up a flagrant foul 2 early in the second quarter of Detroit's 133-119 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday for elbow-checking Thomas Bryant.

The 23-year-old was immediately ejected, ending his night with just one point and one assist through less than eight minutes of play. He's averaging 5.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists through 43 appearances.

Stewart was also fined $50,000 by the league for making inappropriate and objectionable gestures in the direction of Indiana's bench following his ejection.

The Pistons' big man entered Wednesday's contest with four flagrant foul points, and per the NBA's point system, a flagrant 2 equalled an automatic one-game suspension. Now that he's at six points, should he commit a flagrant 1, it would result in another one-game suspension while a flagrant 2 would mean a two-game ban.

If he gets to seven or more points, every subsequent flagrant foul (regardless of level) will equal a two-game suspension.

Famously, Stewart was involved in an on-court altercation with Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James. The former 16th overall pick repeatedly charged at James, after taking an elbow to the face, despite multiple attempts to hold him back and escort him off the court. He was suspended two games for the matter.

Stewart will serve his latest suspension on Friday when the Pistons host the Dallas Mavericks.
