Toronto Raptors rookie Scottie Barnes was wearing a walking boot at shootaround will be out for Game 2 of the team's playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night, while Gary Trent Jr. and Thad Young remain listed as doubtful.
Barnes suffered a left ankle injury in Saturday's Game 1 loss.
Barnes, an NBA Rookie of the Year candidate, was having an excellent playoff debut, with 15 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, before the Sixers' 280-pound centre Joel Embiid stepped on his foot, sending him sprawling to the floor in agony with about nine minutes left to play.
“I thought it was going to be bad," Barnes said. "I hit the ground and I was like ‘damn.’ It’s just the beginning, just getting started. But after I was just still trying to have positive thoughts and keep myself into it."
Barnes said he doesn't know an exact timeline for his injury.
“I don’t know. It might be soon, we’ll have to see," he said. "It’s feeling better, though, each and every day for sure."
Trent Jr. (non-COVID illness) and Young (thumb) both played in Game 1 before being listed as doubtful for Game 2.
Young plans to tape up his thumb and try to play.
Raptors coach Nick Nurse was keeping his lineup plans close to his vest.
“Could go a lot of ways. Could be using bit minutes for a bunch of different guys. We’ll just have to wait and see on that.
"We’ve got to get our identity. Whoever steps on the floor should be able to go out there and do it," Nurse added. "But listen, it matters who plays in these games, that’s for sure. It certainly matters."
