Raptors' Barrett, Quickley to rest against Mavericks

The Toronto Raptors will continue to rest key players on Friday, although the pattern has changed.

RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley will rest against the Dallas Mavericks, joining teammates Jakob Poeltl, Ja'Kobe Walter, Gradey Dick, Brandon Ingram, and Ulrich Chomche on the sidelines, the team announced on Thursday.

Two-way player Jared Rhoden was ruled out with a right shoulder sprain on Friday after initially being listed as questionable. That leaves the Raptors with eight players available for Friday's game after Cole Swider and Orlando Robinson were waived on Thursday. This includes Chris Boucher, who has not played since Feb. 26.

The former Knicks teammates Barrett and Quickley played together for the first time since March 14 on Wednesday against the Hornets, after following a schedule of alternating rest days.

Barrett, 24, is averaging 21.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 5.4 assists — all career highs — in 58 games.

Quickley, 25, has played only 33 games this season due to various injuries and is averaging 17.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists in his first "full" season in Toronto.

Dick, 21, was ruled out for the remainder of the season on April 4 due to a right knee bone bruise he sustained on March 2 against the Orlando Magic. Last year's 13th-overall pick had already missed the Raptors' last 17 games due to injury.

The Raptors' big-name deadline acquisition, Ingram, was ruled out for the remainder of the season after receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection on Wednesday to treat the ankle sprain that has held him out since Dec. 7.

After the San Antonio Spurs came back to beat the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday, the Raptors are now locked into the seventh-worst record, giving them a 7.5 per cent chance at the top pick, and a 31.9 per cent chance at picking in the top four.
