The Toronto Raptors are bringing in former Chicago Sky head coach and general manager James Wade to be an assistant coach, the teams announced Saturday.
Wade led the Sky to their first-ever WNBA Championship, in 2021, and in his first season with the club, in 2018, he led them to their first playoff appearance in three years and won WNBA Coach of the Year. Across his four years with the Sky, he has achieved a winning record.
"We are thrilled that James can fulfill a lifelong dream to join the NBA, and we send him our warmest congratulations and best wishes," Sky principal owner Michael Alter said in a press release.
The 47-year-old spent 13 years playing professional basketball in both Europe and Russia before transitioning to coaching.
