Raptors' Scottie Barnes could return from injury vs. Timberwolves

The injury-riddled Toronto Raptors could be getting their best player back as soon as Thursday.

Scottie Barnes went through a full practice Wednesday and could return from injury Thursday against the Minnesota Timberwolves, coach Darko Rajakovic said.

Following practice, the star forward was listed as questionable for the game Thursday. Additionally, rookie Ja'Kobe Walter was also listed as questionable after missing the team's last six games with a sprained shoulder.

The 23-year-old wore goggles at practice, opting for that instead of a mask due to it being more protective of his eye, specifically.

"It's for sure going to take some getting used to," Barnes told reporters about the gear. "Just trying to get a lot of reps with it. Not being able to see certain things, gotta get used to it."

Barnes suffered an orbital fracture in a game against the Denver Nuggets on Oct. 28 and has missed the team's last 11 games.

He saw a specialist after the injury, who determined that he would not need surgery to recover from the injury.

In that span, the Raptors have gone 2-9 but have put up some solid fights, including near wins over the Denver Nuggets, Boston Celtics and L.A. Clippers.

"We're some fighters, we got some dogs on our team," Barnes said about the rest of the Raptors. "We want to win. We'll just keep striving every day to be better."

Toronto's fourth-overall pick in 2021 has continued to be a do-it-all player for the team this season, averaging 19.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, six assists and two steals through his five appearances.

Bruce Brown (knee) also participated more in practice on Wednesday, but was listed as out for Thursday's game.

Immanuel Quickley (elbow), Bruno Fernando (ankle), Kelly Olynyk (back) and D.J. Carton had a similar workload, either sitting out practice or only participating in solo drills.
