Toronto Raptors all-star Fred VanVleet will not be in the lineup Wednesday against the Minnesota Timberwolves, but his knee injury isn’t considered serious.
VanVleet was unable to finish Monday’s loss to the Pelicans due to the injury. However, an MRI on his knee came back clean and the team is resting him Wednesday as a precaution.
VanVleet will be heading to his first all-star game this weekend — and will be competing in the three-point contest — thanks to a spectacular performance this season following the departure of veteran Kyle Lowry. The soon-to-be 28-year-old is averaging career-highs with 21.6 points, seven assists and 4.6 rebounds while being among the league leaders with 38.4 minutes per game.
The injury is not expected to prevent VanVleet from participating in all-star festivities.
Khem Birch will enter the starting lineup in place of VanVleet Wednesday, with Pascal Siakam handling point guard duties to start.
