Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid reportedly suffered a sprained right knee in Game 3 and will miss Game 4 of their opening-round series against the Brooklyn Nets, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne.
Embiid could be seen visibly limping throughout the second half of Game 3 on Thursday — a 102-97 win for the 76ers. Shelbourne reports that he was hurt contesting a layup from Nets guard Cam Thomas in the third quarter.
The big man played the whole game and finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds to help Philadelphia take a 3-0 stranglehold on the series.
Wojnarowski is also reporting that there is optimism that Embiid could be ready to return as early as next week.
Game 4 is scheduled for Sunday, while Game 5 will be played Monday back in Philadelphia if necessary.
Embiid is one of the three finalists for the NBA's MVP award this season after averaging 33.1 points and 10.2 rebounds in 66 regular-season games.
