Philadelphia 76ers star centre Joel Embiid will miss Thursday's game against the Utah Jazz while awaiting further evaluation on his left knee following an MRI, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Wojnarowski also reports that the 29-year-old is expected to travel back to Philadelphia.
Embiid left Tuesday's game against the Warriors in the fourth quarter after Golden State's Jonathan Kuminga fell on his left leg. Embiid immediately clutched his knee in visible pain, but was able to leave the court on his own.
“He obviously got landed on,” 76ers head coach Nick Nurse said after their 119-107 loss to the Warriors. “They’re going to do an MRI tonight or tomorrow. It’s kind of unrelated to what’s been bothering him. We just wait on that.”
Embiid is averaging 35.3 points, 5.7 assists and 11.3 rebounds in 34 games this season.
The reigning MVP missed the team's previous two games — losses to the Nuggets and Trail Blazers — and has missed 12 on the season. If he continues to miss more time, Embiid risks becoming ineligible for post-season awards.
