The Philadelphia 76ers have signed free agent centre Montrezl Harrell to a two-year contract which also includes a player option, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
Harrell reunites with Doc Rivers and Sam Cassell who he won Sixth Man of the Year during the in 2019-2020 season while with the Los Angeles Clippers. Former Houston Rockets teammate James Harden also reportedly played a role in bringing Harrell to Philadelphia.
Harrell had a felony charge of marijuana trafficking reduced to a misdemeanour possession charge in a Madison County (Kentucky) Courthouse back on Aug. 31. Harrell pleaded guilty to the misdemeanour charge, which will be expunged from his record after 12 months if he gets in no further legal trouble.
Harrell, 28, was pulled over in Richmond, Kentucky, by a state trooper May 12 for driving behind a vehicle too closely, according to court records.
The trooper said he smelled marijuana and, after a search, discovered 3 pounds (1.4 kilograms) of marijuana in vacuum-sealed bags inside a backpack in the backseat. Harrell was charged with trafficking less than five pounds (2.3 kilograms) of marijuana.
Harrell has played seven seasons in the NBA with the Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, Washington Wizards and Charlotte Hornets.
