The Milwaukee Bucks are signing centre Meyers Leonard, who hasn't played in the NBA since using an antisemitic slur in March 2021, to a 10-day contract, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
After saying the slur during a video game live stream, Leonard issued an apology and said he did not know what it meant at that time.
In his apology, posted on social media, he said "my ignorance about its history and how offensive it is to the Jewish community is absolutely not an excuse and I was just wrong."
Leonard last played in 2020-21 with the Miami Heat. He was suspended for one week and fined $50,000 for using an antisemitic slur. He was also required to participate in a cultural diversity program by the NBA.
The 30-year-old was subsequently traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder and released.
In nine career NBA seasons, Leonard has averaged 5.6 points and 3.9 rebounds while shooting 48.2 per cent from the field and 39 per cent from three.
