The Oklahoma City Thunder and Canadian guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander have agreed to a five-year, $172-million rookie max contract extension, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Wojnarowski adds that the contract includes a 30 per cent escalator that could take the guaranteed salary up to $207-million if Gilgeous-Alexander is named to an All-NBA team. The deal will begin in the 2022-23 season when his rookie contract expires.
Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 23.7 points, 4.7 assists and 5.9 assists per game on 50.8 per cent shooting in 35 games with the Thunder this season.
The 23-year-old began his career with the Los Angeles Clippers before he was traded to Oklahoma City as part of the blockbuster Paul George trade in July 2019.
Gilgeous-Alexander was drafted 11th overall in the 2018 NBA Draft.
