Former UFC champion Conor McGregor clearly only knows one speed when it comes to combat sports. Even when his opponent is a mascot with giant golden boxing gloves.
According to Sam Amick of the Athletic, McGregor sent the man who plays Burnie, the Miami Heat's mascot, to the hospital after an orchestrated halftime sketch during Game 4 of the NBA Finals didn't go exactly as planned.
During a skit designed to promote his new pain relief spray, McGregor delivered a bone-crunching left hook to the side of Burnie's head, knocking the mascot sprawling to the floor. McGregor threw another punch while Burine was on the floor, then sprayed the mascot with his product as he was dragged off court by his arms.
According to Amick's sources, the man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he was given pain medication. He was then sent home and is reportedly doing well.
It was an especially bad night for the Heat, as not only did their mascot need medical attention, but they also lost Game 4 108-95 to the Denver Nuggets and are now trail 3-1 in the series.
You can watch the Heat try and keep their season alive Monday in Game 5 live on Sportsnet and SN NOW at 8:30 p.m. ET / 6:30 p.m. PT.
