Report: D'Angelo Russell picks up player option with Lakers

D'Angelo Russell appears to be staying in Los Angeles.

The Athletic's Shams Charania reported Friday that the Los Angeles Lakers guard is picking up his $18.7 million player option for the 2024-25 season.

Last season, Russell averaged 18 points, 6.3 assists and 3.1 rebounds over 76 regular season games with the Lakers.

His numbers took a bit of a dip in the playoffs, as he averaged just 14.2 points and 4.2 assists before the Lakers were eliminated by the Denver Nuggets in five games.

Lakers superstar LeBron James also has a player option that he will have to decide on by Saturday. But with the Lakers taking Bronny James, LeBron's son, in the NBA Draft, all signs point to LeBron also staying with the Lakers.
