The Sacramento Kings have decided to open their search for their next head coach and will not bring back interim coach Alvin Gentry, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, though the parties are discussing a front-office role and a resolution is expected sometime next week.
The Kings had brought on Gentry as associate coach in 2020 and named the 67-year-old interim head coach following the firing of Luke Walton on Nov. 22, 2021.
Sacramento concluded their season by beating the Phoenix Suns 115-109 on Sunday but missed out on the playoffs with a 12th place finish in the Western Conference.
