The Lakers and Thunder have agreed in principle to a trade that would send guard Dennis Schroder to Los Angeles and the 28th pick in the upcoming NBA draft to Oklahoma City, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
Lakers guard Danny Green is also being discussed as part of the potential return for Schroder.
The deal could be completed as soon as tomorrow with the NBA reportedly informing teams that the league’s trade moratorium will end at noon ET on Monday.
Schroder, 27, could serve as a replacement for Rajon Rondo, who has a player option worth $2.69 million, should the veteran guard decide to opt for free agency.
Schroder, who can play both guard spots, put 18.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists on 46.9 per cent shooting from the field and 38.5 from three with the Thunder last season. Over the course of seven NBA seasons, two with the Thunder and five with the Atlanta Hawks, he has recorded career averages of 14.1 points, 4.6 and 2.8 rebounds.
Fresh off his third NBA title, Green, 33, saw his numbers decline in his first season with the Lakers, averaging 8.0 points, 1.3 steals and 3.3 rebounds with a 41.6 field-goal percentage and 36.7 per cent shooting from beyond the arc.
