The Los Angeles Lakers will not play superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis in their second pre-season game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
In the Lakers’ first pre-season tilt last Friday against the Clippers, the duo sat out as well.
Along with the Miami Heat, Los Angeles has had the shortest off-season of any club, finishing its season on Oct. 11 with a Game 6 victory in the 2020 NBA Finals and now picking things right back up with training camps having opened on Dec. 1.
James is 35 years old (and will be 36 on Dec. 30) and has played 48,551 career regular-season minutes.
Davis is quite a bit younger (27 years old), but has had a somewhat shaky injury history throughout his young career, and so prioritizing his health with such a quick turnaround only makes sense.
The NBA’s Battle of Los Angeles resumes tonight, as Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers will look to build pre-season momentum against the resting Lakers. Coverage beings on Sportsnet and Sportsnet ONE at 8:30 p.m. EST/11:30 p.m. PST.
