Report: Mexico City Capitanes will be first Latin American G League team

The NBA G League will have its first Latin American team called the Mexico City Capitanes, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

The NBA G League will have its first Latin American team in the 2021-22 season – the Mexico City Capitanes – but the Capitanes will play all of their games in the United States due to COVID-19 restrictions on international travel.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Capitanes will stay in the United States for the duration of the 2021-22 G League season.

According to NBA reporter Marc Stein, the Capitanes will be based in Fort Worth, Texas, for both practice and accommodation purposes. They will play their games in existing G League markets for the season.

The G League's Mexico City Capitanes will be based in Fort Worth for practice and housing purposes for the 2021-22 season and will play all games in their inaugural @nbagleague season in existing league markets, league sources say.
