The NBA G League will have its first Latin American team called the Mexico City Capitanes, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Capitanes will stay in the United States for the duration of the 2021-22 G League season.
According to NBA reporter Marc Stein, the Capitanes will be based in Fort Worth, Texas, for both practice and accommodation purposes. They will play their games in existing G League markets for the season.
Mexico City will become the 28th active franchise in the G League. It is still being determined when the 2021-22 G League season will begin.
