Ja Morant is back in the NBA's crosshairs.
The Memphis Grizzlies guard is under investigation by the league after appearing to use a finger fun gesture during the team's loss to the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday, ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Wednesday.
Warriors guard Buddy Hield is also being looked into for a gesture of his own before Morant's and the NBA will talk to both players on Wednesday, Charania added.
The Warriors went on to win a 134-125 thriller, led by Stephen Curry's 52 points and 12 made threes.
Morant was suspended twice in 2023 for a pair of incidents showing firearms on social media.
He was banned for eight games in March, then handed a 25-game suspension to begin the 2023-24 season, which cost him approximately $7.5 million.
Morant, a 25-year-old two-time all-star, has played just 46 games this season amid a series of injuries, averaging 22.7 points per game — his lowest since his sophomore season — to go with 7.4 assists and 4.2 rebounds.
The investigations mark the latest bit of turmoil for the Grizzlies, who fired head coach Taylor Jenkins late in March despite sitting in a playoff spot.
Memphis (44-32) fell to sixth in the West, a half-game behind fifth-place Golden State (44-31), after Tuesday's loss. The defeat marked the team's fourth in a row and eighth through its last 10.
The Grizzlies return to the court Thursday for a road game against the Miami Heat, who've won straight games.
