Brooklyn Nets star James Harden has withdrawn his name from the United States’ roster for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics due to the hamstring injury he suffered during the playoffs, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports.
With Harden’s withdrawal, Charania reports Detroit Pistons‘ Jerami Grant and Chicago Bulls‘ Zach LaVine will occupy the final spots on the 12-man roster.
According to Charania, the final roster will be as follows:
Kevin Durant
Damian Lillard
Bradley Beal
Jayson Tatum
Devin Booker
Zach LaVine
Kevin Love
Bam Adebayo
Draymond Green
Jrue Holiday
Khris Middleton
Jerami Grant
Harden had initially indicated his interest in joining the team in Tokyo, but he was slowed during the playoffs by a hamstring injury he suffered in Game 1 against the Milwaukee Bucks. While he was able to return for the final three games of the series, his numbers dipped and he finished the series averaging only 10.5 points per game.
Grant, 26, is coming off his best NBA season yet after seeing his role increase with the rebuilding Pistons. In 54 starts this season, the forward averaged a career-high 22.3 points while collecting 4.6 rebounds per game.
LaVine, 26, earned his first all-star selection this season and is coming off the most productive year of his career. The six-foot-five guard averaged 27.5 points, five assists and 4.7 rebounds — all career highs — in 58 games this season.
