Raptors 905 head coach Patrick Mutombo is joining the Phoenix Suns as an assistant coach, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Mutombo was named the head coach of the Toronto Raptors NBA G League affiliate in December of 2020, leading the team to first place regular season finishes both years and creating the league's top-ranked offence in 2021 and top-ranked defence in 2022.
Mutombo was part of the Raptors at the NBA level as an assistant coach from 2016–20, including winning his first championship on a coaching staff as the Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors in the 2019 NBA Finals.
The 42-year-old got his start in the NBA with the Denver Nuggets as a player development coordinator, joining in 2011, and by 2012 was promoted to assistant coach.
