The Houston Rockets will interview Toronto Raptors assistant coach Adrian Griffin as they search for a head coach and could target Toronto head coach Nick Nurse if he becomes available, The Athletic's Shams Charania reported on Tuesday.
Charania writes Griffin is one of five candidates scheduled to be interviewed by the Rockets.
The others are former Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka, Golden State Warriors associate coach Kenny Atkinson, former Los Angeles Lakers/Orlando Magic/Indiana Pacers head coach Frank Vogel and former Charlotte Hornets head coach James Borrego.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported the Rockets also will interview Phoenix Suns associate head coach Kevin Young.
Nurse's future has been in question with the Raptors finishing a disappointing 41-41 in the regular season and the coach himself saying he would be evaluating his future in Toronto after the post-season. Nurse, who guided the Raptors to the 2019 NBA title, has one year left on his contract.
Nurse had previously been linked to the Rockets. Charania reported he will be a top target for the Rockets, if he becomes available.
Udoka also has been mentioned as a Toronto candidate, if the team parts ways with Nurse.
Griffin has been an assistant under Nurse since he became head coach in 2018. The former NBA player also has been an assistant for the Magic, Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks and Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Raptors play a sudden-death play-in game against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday.
The Rockets and head coach Stephen Silas parted ways on Monday after the team finished 22-60.
