Less than 24 hours before the NBA trade deadline, the rumour mill continues to heat up, including a potential reunion story for the Toronto Raptors and Jakob Poeltl.
NBA correspondent Marc Stein reported Wednesday that the San Antonio Spurs and Raptors are having conversations about a trade that would send Poeltl back to Toronto, the team who originally drafted the big man.
Stein reported later that the main scenario discussed between the two teams would involve Poeltl being dealt in exchange for Raptors veteran Thaddeus Young and draft capital. The Spurs are also reportedly wanting at least one first-round pick and are also supposedly interested in Raptors youngster Dalano Banton.
Toronto drafted Poeltl with the ninth overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft. He played two seasons for the Raptors, before being shipped to the Spurs as part of the deal that brought Kawhi Leonard to the Raptors.
Stein also reported that in the weeks leading up to the deadline, San Antonio seemed to be "reluctant" to part ways with the 27-year-old forward. But over the past 24 hours, there has been a shift, and the Spurs are now willing to move Poeltl.
The Utah product is enjoying a solid season under Gregg Popovich and the Spurs, averaging 12.1 points and 9.1 rebounds a contest through 45 games.
It's not the first rumour the Raptors have been involved in, and it certainly won't be the last as the deadline approaches.
Toronto is taking on Poeltl and the Spurs Wednesday night in what could very well be his last game in a San Antonio uniform. Only time will tell.
The NBA trade deadline is Thursday at 3 p.m. ET/ 12 p.m. PT.
