The Phoenix Suns are planning to sign free agent Bismack Biyombo to a 10-day hardship contract, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Wojnarowski adds that the deal could prelude a longer stay.
Biyombo, a former Toronto Raptor, played 66 games with the Charlotte Hornets last season.
In his lone season in Toronto (2015-16), the now-29-year-old from the Democratic Republic of Congo stole the hearts of Raptors faithful with his energy and charisma while filling in as the starting centre when Jonas Valanciunas was injured. He famously mimicked countryman and NBA legend Dikembe Mutombo’s finger-wag after blocking shots.
He also set a franchise record for rebounds in a game with 26 against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 3 on the 2016 Eastern Conference final.
Biyombo’s stellar play with the Raptors that season earned him a lucrative four-year, $72-million deal with the Orlando Magic in the off-season, the largest contract of his career so far by nearly $60 million.
