Golden State Warriors guard Jordan Poole is finalizing a four-year extension worth $140 million, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Poole broke out last season with 18.5 points per game, followed by a 17-point average in the Warriors' playoff run to the NBA title.
The 23-year-old, drafted by the Warriors 28th overall in 2019, has been at the centre of the NBA's news cycle for the last week and a half for being on the receiving end of Draymond Green's punch at Golden State practice.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the NBA — especially after video of the punch was obtained by TMZ — and head coach Steve Kerr has called it "the biggest crisis" in his eight years as Warriors coach.
Green was fined but not suspended for the incident.
When news of the incident first broke, Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports reported that Poole's noticeable change in behaviour during training camp due to the imminent extension was part of the buildup to the altercation.
Green, meanwhile, is set to make $25.8 million this upcoming season and has a player option in 2023-24, but is currently eligible for an extension — which he says he doesn't expect to get before the 2022-23 campaign begins.
Before Green rejoined the team Thursday, Kerr said Tuesday night leaders from all levels of the organization — including the players — were consulted on how to handle his return.
Green said he used his time away to refocus, without getting specific, and he's planning to work at rebuilding relationships now that he has returned.
"We had the conversations about what we need to do moving forward, and we're going to do that," Green said, according to ESPN's Kendra Andrews. "We are not going to continue to hold on to the past."
