The Minnesota Timberwolves' have agreed to a restructured contract with president of basketball operations Tim Connelly, keeping him with the team for the 2024-25 season, Shams Charania reported Wednesday on X. This pushes his opt-out clause back until next summer.
Following their western conference finals appearance, the team's first in 20 years, this post-season was a huge step forward for the franchise that hasn't made it past the first round of the playoffs since the Kevin Garnett-led 2003-04 season.
Connelly joined the Wolves in 2022 and was responsible for the blockbuster trade, acquiring Rudy Gobert from the Utah Jazz, which drew plenty of criticism as an overpay at the time.
Before the move to Minnesota, Connelly held the reins in Denver and played a large part in the Nuggets' current success. He was in the Mile High City for nine years, and was responsible for drafting Canadian Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr., alongside the three-time MVP winner Nikola Jokic in the second round of the 2014 NBA Draft.
