Anthony Edwards will be without his co-star until after the All-Star break.
Julius Randle has a right adductor strain and will be re-evaluated in two weeks, the Minnesota Timberwolves announced on Wednesday.
He had an MRI that revealed a strain of his right adductor muscle, which is part of the groin, and the diagnosis was confirmed by a second opinion from a specialist.
Randle, 30, sustained the injury early in the second quarter of a 138-113 win over the Utah Jazz on Jan. 30.
The six-foot-nine forward is averaging 18.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in 48 games with the Timberwolves this season.
Randle was acquired by Minnesota along with Donte DiVincenzo and a first-round draft pick in a late off-season deal with the New York Knicks in exchange for superstar big man Karl-Anthony Towns.
A three-time All-Star over the course of his five years in New York, Randle's production has dropped off significantly this season compared to his averages of 22.6 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 4.7 assists during his Knicks tenure.
They also are missing DiVincenzo because of a big toe injury. He also will be re-evaluated during the All-Star break, meaning DiVincenzo's absence count will reach 16 games.
