Grizzlies’ Jaren Jackson Jr. feared to have suffered hamstring strain

The Grizzlies can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to their health.

Memphis forward Jaren Jackson Jr. is feared to have suffered a hamstring strain on the first day of practice at the team’s training camp, head coach Taylor Jenkins told reporters on Tuesday.

According to Jenkins, he felt tightness in his leg while going for a drive and will have to undergo imaging. He added that the timeline is still to be determined.

Jackson Jr., 25, played well last season after winning defensive player of the year in the 2022-23 campaign. He averaged a career-high 22.5 points with 5.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.6 blocks per game over 66 contests.

The six-foot-10 forward has had issues with injuries over the years, including a torn meniscus in 2020 that forced him to miss the majority of the 2020-21 season and two knee injuries that forced early ends to his first two years in the NBA.

Memphis has already dealt with a bevy of injuries ahead of pre-season, with wing Vince Williams Jr. set to miss at least a month with a tibia injury and forward GG Jackson out at least three months with a broken foot.
