Kings head coach Mike Brown fined $50,000 for outburst at referees

Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown was handed a hefty $50,000 fine after his outburst at referees during the game against the Milwaukee Bucks went viral, the league announced on Tuesday.

In the press release, the league said that he was fined for not only the viral sequence of him pulling out a laptop at the post-game press conference but he was also given an infraction for his initial ejection from the game.

The actions occurred during and after a Kings 143-142 overtime loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday.

Following a non-call on the offensive end for which Brown believed a foul should’ve been given, the second-year coach pursued one of the referees and yelled at him, prompting two of his players to hold him back.

Following the game, in a moment that has since gone viral, Brown pulled out a laptop to highlight exact points where he believed referees made wrong or inconsistent foul calls, including the play just before he was ejected.

“I’m OK as a coach because the referees are human and they’re going to make mistakes,” Brown said. “But you just hope that A, there’s some sort of consistency, and B, there’s some sort of communication.”

It was the second incident last week in which a coach publicly voiced their displeasures for officiating after Toronto Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic gave a spirited rant following a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Rajakovic was handed a $25,000 fine following his outburst.
