Raptors’ Gradey Dick, rookie Jonathan Mogbo both injured in Summer League

Following a strong first showing in Summer League on Saturday, Gradey Dick‘s night ended early in the team’s second Vegas outing.

The Toronto Raptors guard suffered a right ankle sprain and was pulled from the game against the Denver Nuggets, the team announced on Sunday.

There is no word yet from the team about the severity of the injury.

Rookie Jonathan Mogbo also left early, suffering a back contusion after taking a hard fall in the second half.

Dick suffered the injury in the first half and didn’t come back out for the start of the second. It’s not entirely clear when the injury occurred, but the second-year sharpshooter seemed to land awkwardly on his ankle in the closing seconds of the half.

He was stellar in the Raptors’ first Summer League game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday, finishing with 18 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. However, because his night was cut short, he finished Sunday’s game with only four points, four rebounds and no assists, shooting 2-for-9 from the field and 0-for-5 from 3-point range in 13 minutes.

Mogbo, 22, was selected with the first pick of the second round (31st overall) at the NBA Draft in late June.

He had a strong opening showing against the Thunder as well, finishing with only two points but piled on six rebounds, three assists and a steal while showing some solid defence.

He finished Sunday’s outing with five points, one rebound, one assist and two blocks in nine minutes.

The Raptors wound up winning the game anyways, taking down the Denver Nuggets 84-81 to sit at 2-0 in the Summer League.
