The Toronto Raptors finished up their stay in Las Vegas unceremoniously as they lost a third consecutive game to wrap up their time at the 2024 NBA Summer League.
The Raptors concluded the tournament in Las Vegas with a 2-3 record after a 100-89 loss to the San Antonio Spurs Sunday night.
The 11-point loss was an improvement over a 36-point defeat to the Miami Heat on Friday, but multiple offensive droughts once again plagued the Raptors.
Toronto showed some life towards the end of the game, going on an 11-0 run to cut the deficit down to single digits in the fourth quarter. The comeback effort ended up being too little too late, however, as the Raptors couldn’t cut what was once a 23-point deficit any lower than nine points before the final whistle.
Gradey Dick and Jonathan Mogbo both missed their third consecutive game for the Raptors, while Ochai Agbaji and Javon Freeman-Liberty were also sidelined.
Ja’Kobe Walter was one of the few bright spots for Toronto on the night as he finished with 16 points on 4-of-9 shooting to go with some impressive play on the defensive end. The 19th overall pick was arguably the Raptors’ most active player on both ends, hunting his shots on offence and playing a physical, yet disciplined, brand of basketball on the other end.
Walter was joined by Jamal Shead who led the Raptors in scoring with 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting and had four rebounds, six assists, one steal and one block.
D.J. Carton, Branden Carlson and Quincy Guerrier were the other double-digit scorers for Toronto, putting up 17, 11 and 10 points each.
Meanwhile, 57th overall pick Ulrich Chomche may have finished with just six points and six rebounds, but his impact on the defensive end was hard to ignore. The 18-year-old finished with five blocks as he showcased all of his seven-foot-four wingspan.
Leading the charge for the Spurs in the victory was Donovan Williams, who finished with 16 points on 75 per cent shooting from the field to go with five rebounds and a steal.
Helping him was Yauhen Massalski who finished with a double-double (14 points, 13 rebounds) in 22 minutes of play off the bench.
Meanwhile, fourth-overall pick Stephon Castle was inactive for San Antonio. With the win, the Spurs finish Summer League with an impressive 4-1 record.
