Report: Bronny James to join Lakers’ G League team in November

Bronny James will remain with the Los Angeles Lakers for a couple more weeks but will spend time in the G League when that league’s season opens next month, according to a new report.

Shams Charania of ESPN reports that James will travel with the Lakers for an upcoming road trip on the East Coast before joining the G League’s South Bay Lakers.

The road trip will see James travel to Phoenix, Cleveland, Toronto, Detroit and Memphis. His father, Lakers superstar LeBron James, began his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers and is a native of nearby Akron, Ohio.

The South Bay Lakers open the season on Nov. 9 against the Salt Lake City Stars.

Bronny James and his father made history on Tuesday when they shared the floor in the Lakers’ win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. They are the first father-son duo to be teammates in NBA history.

The Lakers selected Bronny James 55th overall in June’s NBA Draft. LeBron James had previously hinted that his son would be spending time in the G League this season as part of his development.

“Just (looking forward to) seeing him continue to grow as a basketball player no matter if it’s here with us or if it’s down with the G League team and him continuing to get better and better and better,” LeBron said on Lakers media day, according to ESPN.

“His job is to put the work in and get better and better, just like the rest of us. And we want to hold him accountable, and he’s going to hold us accountable. And if we all do that, we all get better, because we’re all one team. We’re a reflection of South Bay; South Bay is a reflection of us.”
