The reigning NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks are giving head coach Mike Budenholzer a multi-year contract extension, the team announced on Tuesday evening. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski first reported that the Bucks and Budenholzer agreed on a three-year extension.
The deal will tie Budenholzer to the franchise through the 2024-25 NBA season.
“Bud is a great coach and a fantastic partner to work with every day as we build a team that consistently competes for championships,” said Bucks general manager Jon Horst. “We’re extremely grateful for the leadership Bud provides and we look forward to building on the success we’ve had over the last three years and congratulate Bud on this well-deserved extension.”
The 2020-21 season saw Budenholzer lead the Bucks to a 46-26 campaign, capped by the franchise’s first NBA championship since 1971.
Budenholzer began his career as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs, starting with the 1996-97 season. In 2013-14, he assumed head coaching duties of the Atlanta Hawks, where he stayed for five seasons. Budenholzer became the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks in 2018-19, where he’s held the position for three seasons.
Budenholzer has a career 375-262 (.589) record, which includes two NBA Coach of the Year honours.
