Canadian Andrew Nembhard signs record deal with Pacers

Canadian Andrew Nembhard has signed a record contract with the Indiana Pacers, the team announced Friday.

The rookie point guard, from Aurora, Ont., signed a four-year deal worth $8.6 million, ESPN reports. The guaranteed $6.4 million for the first three years is the most ever for a second-round pick from the collegiate ranks.

The Pacers picked the six-foot-five Nembhard, a Gonzaga University product, 31st overall in this year’s NBA Draft.

ESPN also says Nembhard will get more guaranteed money than those players picked Nos. 18-30 in the first round.

Nembhard averaged 6.6 points and five rebounds in five Summer League games with the Pacers.

He was a big part of the NCAA’s top-ranked team heading into the championship tournament last season, averaging 11.8 points and 5.8 assists.
