Report: Celtics retain C Neemias Queta on multi-year deal

Another piece stays in title-town.

The reigning champion Boston Celtics have re-signed centre Neemias Queta to a multi-year deal, the Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Sunday.

The final terms of the contract were not reported.

Queta, 24, is the first and only Portuguese player in the NBA. He averaged 5.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 0.8 blocks in 11.9 minutes per game with the Celtics last season.

Boston declined Queta’s $2.1 million team option ahead of the deadline on Saturday as they had hoped to sign him to a multi-year extension.

Also on Sunday, the Celtics signed fellow depth centre Luke Kornet to a two-year extension as they look to keep their bench unit intact for next season.
