Former Toronto Raptors star Kyle Lowry is poised to sign with his hometown Philadelphia 76ers after agreeing to a contract buyout with the Charlotte Hornets, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Saturday.
Wojnarowski says Lowry’s deal with the 76ers will be for $2.8 million for the rest of the season.
The move will reunite Lowry, 37, with ex-Raptors coach Nick Nurse, who now coaches the 76ers. They both were key members of the Raptors’ 2019 championship team.
Lowry announced in a video posted through Priority Sports a video announcing his agreement with the 76ers.
The Miami Heat traded Lowry, who is in the final year of his contract, to the out-of-contention Hornets late last month. The point guard never played for the Hornets, with a buyout believed to be a strong possibility after the trade.
The 76ers traded Patrick Beverley to the Milwaukee Bucks earlier this week, so Lowry gives them another backcourt option.
The 76ers (31-21) are fifth in the Eastern Conference, but might not have star Joel Embiid for the rest of the season after he underwent knee surgery recently.
Lowry averaged 8.2 points and 4.0 assists in 37 games for the Heat this season.
Lowry is a six-time NBA all-star.
