Seven-time NBA All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge, who was forced to retire last season due to heart concerns, is returning to the NBA as a member of the Brooklyn Nets, the team confirmed Friday.
Terms of Aldridge’s return were not announced by the club. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the deal will be for one year and $2.6 million.
Aldridge received medical clearance from a number of doctors, Wojnarowski reported, including independent physicians and those affiliated with the Nets in order to make a return for his 16th season.
Aldridge signed with the Nets in late March after a buyout from the San Antonio Spurs. But in mid-April, after only five games with Brooklyn, he announced his retirement due to an irregular heartbeat.
“For 15 years, I’ve put basketball first, and now, it is time to put my health and family first,” he wrote in a statement at the time.
Despite being limited to 26 games, the veteran power forward averaged 13.5 points and 4.5 rebounds, his lowest totals since his rookie season in 2006-07.
