Report: Wizards sign Jonas Valanciunas to three-year, $30M contract

The Washington Wizards are signing centre Jonas Valanciunas to a three-year, $30 million contract, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Sunday.

Valanciunas, 32, was a steady presence at the five for the New Orleans Pelicans last season, averaging 12.2 points, 8.8 rebounds and 0.8 blocks in 23.5 minutes per game. He suited up for all 82 regular season contests for the team.

The former Raptors big man had spent the last three seasons in New Orleans. Before that, he spent two seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies after being traded there from the Raptors in the deal that saw Toronto acquire Marc Gasol.

Washington has been in the market to beef up their frontcourt after losing Kristaps Porzingis and Daniel Gafford last season. They have since re-signed Richaun Holmes to a two-year contract and selected French big man Alex Sarr second overall at the NBA Draft on Wednesday.
