Thunder, head coach Mark Daigneault agree to multi-year contract extension

The Oklahoma City Thunder have signed head coach Mark Daigneault to a multi-year contract extension, the team announced Wednesday.

The 38-year-old has been the head coach of the Thunder since 2020. Prior to joining Thunder, Daigneault was the head coach of the Oklahoma City Blue for five seasons.

In the 2022-23 season, Daigneault led Thunder to a 16-win improvement from the 2021-22 season, finishing off with a 40-42 record. The team finished the regular season in 10th place in the Western Conference but defeated the New Orleans Pelicans in a play-in game before being eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Following that successful campaign, Daigneault finished as runner-up for the NBA Coach of the Year award, behind Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown.
