Canadian Zach Edey has withdrawn himself from the 2023 NBA Draft and will return to Purdue for his senior season this fall.
Edey, the reigning NCAA men's basketball player of the year, announced his decision on social media Wednesday, hours before the deadline to withdraw from the draft.
The Toronto native will return to a Boilermakers team with unfinished business, after a stunning upset by No. 16-seed Farleigh Dickenson in the first round of the March Madness tournament.
The seven-foot-four centre averaged 21 points and 15 rebounds with Purdue as a junior, but was projected to be a mid-second-round pick in the NBA as scouts questioned whether he had the footspeed to defend at the highest level.
ESPN ranked Edey No. 47 on their "Best Available" draft board.
There are two Canadians projected to be selected in the NBA Draft on June 22: Leonard Miller, a six-foot-four forward from Scarborough, Ont., who plays for the G League Ignite, and Olivier-Maxence Prosper, a six-foot-eight Montreal native who played for Marquette last season.
