Canadian QB Taylor Elgersma delivers big play in Senior Bowl

Taylor Elgersma made the most of a big opportunity.

The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks star quarterback completed a beautiful 43-yard pass to National teammate Pat Bryant of Virginia Tech in the third quarter of the Senior Bowl on Saturday in Mobile, Ala.

The play led to a tie-breaking, 39-yard field goal for the National team, giving it an 11-8 lead on the American team.

Elgersma was the first quarterback from a Canadian university to be invited to the NCAA All-Star event, which showcases players eligible for the upcoming NFL Draft.

The London, Ont., native earned the Hec Crighton Trophy as the top player in U Sports this year and guided the Golden Hawks to the Vanier Cup national championship game.

The six-foot-five Elgersma is ranked 20th for the upcoming CFL Draft, but hoped to open NFL eyes during his week at the Senior Bowl.

The University of Toronto's Dan Feraday was the last U Sports QB to be drafted into the NFL, going in the 12th round in 1982 to the Cincinnati Bengals.
