The Houston Texans have reportedly requested to interview DeMeco Ryans of the San Fransisco 49ers, Jonathan Gannon of the Philadelphia Eagles, Ejiro Evero of the Denver Broncos and Ben Johnson of the Detroit Lions for their vacant head coaching position, sources tell NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.
The Texans fired head coach Lovie Smith Sunday evening after the they beat the Indianapolis Colts 32-31 in a victory that ultimately ceded the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft to the the Chicago Bears.
Smith was the head coach for just one season, going 3-13-1 in that timeframe. This is the second straight season in which the Texans have fired a coach after one year, parting ways with David Culley the year prior.
Despite a poor overall record, Smith led his team to a 3-2-1 record against AFC South opponents.
