The San Francisco 49ers got some good news about their quarterback after a scary injury Monday night.
Brock Purdy has managed to avoid a major injury to his elbow but will likely miss the team's Week 18 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Tuesday, per ESPN's Nick Wagoner.
According to Shanahan, Purdy is dealing with a right elbow bruise with some nerve inflammation.
The injury occurred in the final minutes of Monday's 40-34 loss to the Detroit Lions. Purdy was forced to the sidelines after being sacked by Lions cornerback Brian Branch.
After the play, the broadcast showed Purdy on the sideline testing out his arm, but after two throws, he shook his head and stayed out of the game. Backup Joshua Dobbs entered in his place and completed the drive with a touchdown run.
Purdy was solid in the loss for San Francisco. He completed 27 of his 35 passes for 377 yards and three touchdowns. He did, however, also throw two interceptions.
Despite missing that loss, Purdy entered Monday with 3,487 yards passing and 17 touchdowns on the season.
The loss drops San Francisco to 6-9 in what has been a season defined by injuries, with stars Trent Williams, Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk among the players who have ended up on injured reserve.
