The San Francisco 49ers just can't escape the injury bug.
In the final minutes of Monday's 40-34 loss to the Detroit Lions, quarterback Brock Purdy was forced to the sideline after a sack with a nerve issue in his right elbow.
Purdy was taken to the ground by Lions cornerback Brian Branch, but it was unclear how he was injured on the play.
49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said after the game that Purdy will undergo testing on Tuesday, and didn't reveal if the injury will impact his quarterback's status for Week 18.
The broadcast showed Purdy on the sideline testing out his arm, but after two throws, he shook his head and conceded to staying out of the game.
Backup Joshua Dobbs entered in his place and completed the drive with a touchdown run.
Purdy was solid in the loss for San Francisco. He completed 27 of his 35 passes for 377 yards and three touchdowns. He did, however, also throw two interceptions.
The 25-year-old missed the 49ers' Week 12 loss to the Green Bay Packers with a shoulder injury earlier this season.
Despite missing that loss, Purdy entered Monday with 3,487 yards passing and 17 touchdowns on the season.
The loss drops San Francisco to 6-9 in what has been a season defined by injuries, with stars Trent Williams, Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk among the players who have ended up on injured reserve.
