The Buffalo Bills will not have their top running back for a Monday night showdown against the New York Jets.
James Cook will be out with a toe injury after getting hurt last week against the Houston Texans. He was listed as questionable coming into the contest.
The Bills promoted rookie running back Frank Gore Jr. from the practice roster to take Cook's roster spot. The son of longtime NFL running back Frank Gore will be making his pro debut.
The elder Gore's career included stops with the New York Jets and Bills.
Cook, missing the first game of his NFL career, has 309 rushing yards and four touchdowns this year. Ray Davis and Ty Johnson are Buffalo's other active running backs.
Meanwhile, Bills star nickel back Taron Johnson (forearm) and top receiver Khalil Shakir (ankle) will both play.
Johnson hasn't played since suffering the injury in the season opener, while Shakir missed Buffalo's last game.
Jets star linebacker C.J. Mosley will return after missing the past three games with a toe injury. He too was listed as questionable.
The Bills (3-2) and Jets (2-3) are battling for top spot in the AFC East.
