The Buffalo Bills released wide receiver John Brown on Tuesday, two seasons into a three-year contract he signed in March 2019.
The Bills also announced the team cut defensive lineman Quinton Jefferson.
The news comes hours after the NFL announced the 2021 salary cap would be $182.5 million, an eight per cent decrease from last season. The moves will reportedly save Buffalo nearly $14.5 million in cap space.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, defensive lineman Vernon Butler agreed to a reduced deal to help the team cap-wise, a decision centre Mitch Morse also made on Tuesday.
Brown, 31, totalled 105 receptions for 1,518 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in two seasons with the Bills, most of which came in 2019 as Brown suited up in just nine games this past season due to injury.
Jefferson, 27, recorded 23 total tackles and three sacks in his first and only season in Buffalo after signing a two-year deal last spring.
