The Cleveland Browns have signed quarterback Joe Flacco off their practice squad and onto the active roster, the team announced on Thursday.
Flacco was originally signed to the Browns practice squad on Nov. 20, less than a week after it was announced quarterback Deshaun Watson was done for the season as he required shoulder surgery.
Cleveland gave rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson the first crack at replacing the injured Watson, but after going 0-2, turned to Flacco.
The former Super Bowl MVP led the Browns to a 1-1 record in his two starts, most recently leading them over the Jacksonville Jaguars with a 31-27 victory. Flacco threw for 311 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in the win.
Aside from an opportunity to play and continue to start for the Browns, Flacco's contract will include up to $4.05 million in incentives, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Flacco, 38, and the 8-5 Browns hold down a wild-card spot for the AFC playoffs. Cleveland will look to continue climbing the conference standings when it hosts the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
