Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is expected to return to training camp this week, head coach Shane Steichen announced Sunday.
Taylor is currently at odds with the team over his contract situation.
The 24-year-old has been rehabilitating an ankle injury at an out-of-state facility since early last week, choosing to continue his recovery there rather than with team personnel. But Steichen said Sunday that Taylor will be back in the coming days.
"He should be back this week," Steichen said. "Do I know the exact date he'll be back? No, but he should be back."
Steichen said the decision on whether Taylor will return to the lineup is with the medical staff. They will have to clear the All-Pro tailback before he can be activated off the physically unable to perform list. Taylor was added to the PUP list on July 25.
Taylor led the NFL in rushing in 2021, recording 1,811 yards on the ground. He has ran for 3,841 yards and 33 touchdowns during his three-year career.
