These might be five of my deepest sleeper fantasy football picks in all of 2020! Deep dive into the danger zone with me folks as I highlight a quarterback, tight end, two wide receivers and a running back that can prop up your Week 12 NFL roster.
Good luck, and hit me up with any questions on Twitter @AndyMc81 using #AskAndy.
Will Dissly, TE, Seahawks
Yahoo! League ownership: Two per cent
Draft Kings salary: $2,900
Greg Olsen’s trip to the I.R. signals the return of Will Dissly to fantasy relevance. Like a glorious phoenix rising from the ashes, Dissly can look to pick up where he left off in 2019. Before missing more than half the year due to injury, Dissly averaged six targets over four games and totalled four touchdowns. The growing chemistry between him and Russell Wilson was undeniable.
While the removal of Olsen certainly helps, back up Jacob Hollister could swoop in and vulture some attention. Dissly still out snaps Hollister and I like his odds of popping against an Eagles team giving up the seventh most FPTs to tight ends.
Andy Isabella, WR, Cardinals
Yahoo! League ownership: One per cent
Draft Kings salary: $3,000
I often say on Sportsnet radio’s “The Fantasy Show” that opportunity equals success in fantasy football. Opportunity is certainly knocking for Andy Isabella as well as savvy fantasy managers interested in a sneaky Flex play or cheap DFS salary. The beloved Larry Fitzgerald is out after testing positive for COVID-19 and that immediately elevates Isabella into his prime slot spot.
Fitzgerald’s target share has been a bit surprising as his absence now opens up five-to-10 Kyler Murray throws. DeAndre Hopkins and Christian Kirk might see some of that workload, but any short inside tosses are going to be headed Isabella’s way. In limited action the zippy sophomore receiver’s displayed elusiveness and pull away speed. Arizona battles an average at best Patriots pass defence.
Baker Mayfield, QB, Browns
Yahoo! League ownership: 34 per cent
Draft Kings salary: $5,300
If you’re searching for a quarterback to stream in Week 12, Baker Mayfield has a mega plus matchup in Jacksonville. Before we get to Mayfield, let’s see the defence he’ll be facing. The Jaguars have the fewest sacks in the NFL (nine) and the collective ‘D’ is ranked 30th.
The 2018 first-overall draft pick hasn’t thrown a TD or INT in three outings, but don’t dismiss him because of the recent stat lines. At home the past three games, the Browns played in consistently horrible wet, windy weather that made throwing the ball hazardous. The last time Mayfield started in suitable conditions versus a poor opponent he lit up Cincinnati for five touchdowns.
Cleveland’s offensive strength is unquestionably its running backs. However, there’s definitely a path where head coach Kevin Stefanski lets his gunslinger shake off the arm rust and rip it.
Sterling Shepard, WR, Giants
Yahoo! League ownership: 49 per cent
Draft Kings salary: $5,100
We all know that the Giants’ offence is far from a finished product. However, quietly the entire unit’s been improving. The return of Sterling Shepard to the lineup after a month-long injury layaway has definitely been a part of that rise.
Since coming back in Week 7, Shepard’s hit double-digit fantasy points every time at an average just shy of 14.0-FPTs in PPR formats. Fresh off the bye, this five-foot-10 Oklahoma City native is taking on the Bengals’ 10th worst pass defence, and one that’s allowed the ninth most FPTs to wide receivers. He’s Daniel Jones’ first look and is a rock solid WR-3 for Sunday.
Brian Hill, RB, Falcons
Yahoo! League ownership: 19 per cent
Draft Kings salary: $4,000
Todd Gurley’s officially been ruled out with a bad knee and that makes Brian Hill Atlanta’s starting running back. If you’re nervous about rostering Hill, I understand. The 25-year-old got lead RB duties twice last season with a decent touch count (15 and 20 carries), but not much production. I feel that history will not repeat itself and we’ll see a more appealing boxscore.
Hill’s yards-per-carry are up from 2019, and more importantly the Falcons host a bland Raiders defence. Las Vegas is third when it comes to giving away fantasy points to running backs, and his backups shouldn’t eat up many touches. Hill makes a ton of sense as a low end RB-2 or Flex.
